CSIRO, Advanced Fluid Dynamics Laboratories (AFDL)

CSIRO Mathematical & Information Sciences, CFD Group
The CSIRO Mathematical & Information Sciences CFD Group specialises in Finite Element Methods, Discrete Element Methods, and Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for the numerical simulation of industrial continuum and granular flows. The Fastflo finite element code developed by the group is marketed worldwide. The web site gives a description of the research activities, example applications, publications, Fastflo code, and staff.
CSIRO Minerals, Advanced Thermo-Fluid Dynamics Laboratory
CFD simulation of processes and equipment in the minerals processing, metals production, power generation and process engineering industries; Development of models in these areas. Site contains information on application areas and contact details.

CERCA - Center for Research on Computation and its Applications, Canada
Turbulence modeling, adaptive gridding, linear system solvers and several generic and applied research programs. Has very nice short descriptions of the research programs and a lot of well structured information !
The CFD Society of Canada
A framework for communication and collaboration between CFD researchers, developers and practitioners, in industry, government and academia. The web site is available both in French and English.

Denmark

DANSIS, Danish Society for Industrial Fluid Dynamics
An organization which provides a network between companies in the area of industrial fluid dynamics. The web site gives a summary of their activities, but be warned, the whole site is in Danish!

Finland

Germany

DLR - German Aerospace Research Establishment
DLR Institute of Design Aerodynamics
Addresses design issues of applied aerodynamics and aeroacoustics in aeronautics and astronautics. The focus of the institute is the development of numerical methods and the formulation and testing of new concepts, which lead to higher perfomance less noisy aircraft. Description of the Insitute and its five branches as well as current projects and research areas.

CRS4 Computational Fluid Dynamics Area
Research, training and industrial consulting activity in the field of CFD and in particular: development of innovative numerical schemes for compressible and incompressible flows; free surface flow dynamics; mesh generation and adaption. The web site gives a description of the area activities and jobs/stages opportunities at CRS4.

National Aerospace Laboratory
National Aerospace engineering research institution of Japan under the Science and Technology Agency. CFD is one of the leading research areas at NAL, with applications within aircraft aerodynamics, space lauch vehicle aerodynamics, aeroengines and turbulence research. NAL operates the Numerical Wind Tunnel(NWT), a powerful parallel vector computer for CFD. Information about research, HYFLEX, organization, staff, budget, publications, divisions, research projects and facilities.

Korea

Institute for Advanced Engineering, Engine Research Team
Involved in engine R&D activities mainly focused on GDI combustion systems, automotive CFD applications, and aftertreatment systems. The web-site includes examples of automotive applications of commercial CFD codes (mainly Star-CD, KIVA-3V, ICEM/CFD) to various engine development activities

Netherlands

Comflow: INUDENT/Delft University of Technology
Comflow is an easy-to use simple 2D CFD package for engineering purposes such as the design of waste heat boilers and (low pressure drop) packed bed reactors. The web site gives a description of the software, examples of flow calculations, opportunity to download a demo version.
CWI, Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica
CWI is the National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science in the Netherlands. They have a small group working with CFD for various applications. You can find information about the different projects here, including full access to papers and technical reports - very nice!

Promotes joint European research in fluid flow, turbulence and combustion. Validation and maintenance of numerical codes and database. Coordinates a number of Special Interest Groups and Pilot Centers. Lots of information about all activities and people involved. Highly recommended !!

Norway

SINTEF Materials and Chemistry - Flow Technology Department
A group working on numerical models for flows in metallurgical reactors. Examples of their research areas are dust separation from gases, gas bubbling in metalllurgical ladles, combustion and soot formation in off-gas from metallurgical furnaces, granular flow, magneto-hydrodynamics, ... The web site gives further information about personnel, research and publications.

Russia

GDT Software Group
Develops and markets GasDynamicsTool, a general purpose CFD program and multifunctional visualizer ScientificVR. The web site gives further information about the products. The front page is in Russian but you can reach an English version by clicking on "English".

South Africa

CSIR, CFD Consultants at Defencetek
Active in Computational Fluid Dynamics for over 10 years, the team grew out of two areas: aircraft / missile aerodynamics (store release) and gas turbine aerothermodynamics. Still heavily involved in these areas, work is also undertaken in the fields of helicopter aerodynamics, compressors, fans, ventilation, process flows, molten metal, noise, atmospheric pollution, etc. The focus is driven by market needs and generally involves solving problems nationally and internationally with established tools. The web site includes information about capabilities, contact information, personnel and links.

Switzerland

CERN - European Organization for Particle Physics
CERN is an international organization which undertakes fundamental research on high energy physics. Particle detectors and particle accelerators, used at CERN, dissipate important amount of heat (mainly because of their electronics), and they need to be controlled in temperature. Therefore, cooling systems have to be designed for these devices. The home page describes thermofluid simulation made on particle detectors and particle accelerators.

U.K.

CFDUG
A software independent CFD users group with its roots in the automotive industry. The web site gives a bit of background information, agenda for forthcoming and previous meetings and contact info. The site also includes a partial membership register.
NAFEMS
NAFEMS is an organisation aimed at fostering quality and standards in the numerical analysis of engineering problems. They have a CFD working group which hosts seminars and develops CFD training documentation.
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, CFD Community Club
A CFD club with about 750 members. Information about objectives, events, software and preprints.

Army High Performance Computing Research Center, USA

Arnold Engineering Development Center, USA
A large complex of flight simulation test facilities. Information about their facilities, an online bibliography and much more.
ASME International

American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Information about the society, conferences, publications and other resources. This is a large, well designed site with a lot of information.
Department of Defense, CFD Computational Technology Area

Coordinates several different CFD programs. Most of them are currently focused on gridding technologies. The web site outlines all projects. Most projects also have their own web sites where you can find further information. Interesting reading and a good overview.
LANL, Fluid Dynamics Group (T-3)

This is the cradle of CFD. Back in the 60'ies researchers like Frank Harlow, Jerry Brackbill and Tony Hirt were the first people in the world to develop CFD methods. This T-3 group at Los Alamos is a legend! You can find some information about people and research projects. Also information about their history.

LBNL Applied Numerical Algorithms Group (ANAG)
ANAG develops numerical algorithms and software for partial differential equations. The primary focus of the work is in the development of high-resolution and adaptive finite difference methods for partial differential equations in complex geometries, with applications to internal combustion engines and other industrial problems. The site gives information about research, software, personnel, and publications.
NASA Ames, Aeromechanics Branch
CFD applied to rotor-craft problems such as, wakes convection, acoustic signature, rotor blade aero-elasticity, airfoil dynamic stall, and down loads on wings. Information about research and group members. A lot of helicopter stuff! Not a lot work seem to have been done lately though (2008)
NASA Ames, NAS - Numerical Aerospace Simulation

Started in 1984 with the vision to develop a computing system capable of simulating an entire aerospace vehicle. Information about projects, people, publications and more. This is a very good web site !

The most heavily used wind tunnel in all of NASA. Information about the facilities and projects.
NASA Glenn Research Center
Formerly known as the NASA Lewis Research Center. Has several groups working with CFD.
NASA Langley, CFD Resources

There are several divisions at NASA Langley that work with CFD. For example, the Aero- and Gas Dynamics Division and the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Division. This page summarises the CFD work at NASA Langely. You can find a lot of information about personnel, geometry and grid generation, flow solvers, various CFD related utilites, research topics, publications, organisation and much more. This is a very interesting web site from a bunch of very good CFD guys!

NPARC Alliance
The NPARC Alliance is a partnership between Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) and NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). The main focus is to develop and maintain their own CFD codes. Most of the codes are available for free to US companies and organizations. The web site provides a lot of information about NPARC and the CFD code WIND. You can find papers, user manuals, a technical reports server and much more. This is a very nice site!
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Modeling and Simulation Group
Developed and maintains a general-purpose conduction heat transfer code (HEATING) and is developing a general-purpose computational fluid dynamics code (PHI3D). This group has developed numerous special-purpose codes. Information about research projects.
